Courage – Daily Therapy for Artists

“The creation of something new is not accomplished by the intellect but by the play instinct acting from inner necessity.  The creative mind plays with the objects it loves.”

  1. I always listen to music when I’m painting. It just helps me concentrate somehow and enjoy painting even more! Georgia O’Keeffe did some of her pieces while listening to classical music. I listen to classic rock, classical, pop or country, just depends on my mood! I haven’t done a piece of abstract art in a long time, though! These are beautiful, Christine!

    • Thank you Patsy! I have painted to music in the past but am painting in silence for the moment…just another phase I guess. 🙂

      • You’re welcome, Christine. Sometimes after the kids are back in school, I like to open the windows and just listen to the birds. It is very quiet where I live most of the time, especially when the neighbor kids are at school all day.

      • Hi Patsy,
You are lucky to live in a quiet part of the world. We all need some peace and quiet sometimes. I live in a very remote area too and after living in the city for so long, I really appreciate it.

      • Hi Christine,
That’s great for you, too. But I thought you got a studio in the city?? Or was that in the home you lived in in the city? I know my husband and I are going to have to find a quiet place near the city, but still not right in it when he has to retire, because I don’t want to live in the rush of suburban life, that’s for sure!

      • Patsy, I am living in the countryside and do have a small studio in a town about 20 minutes drive. Sometimes I choose to stay in the cottage to draw and prepare because it is so peaceful there.

      • Oh. That’s right. You told me that. Sorry I didn’t remember! My kids tell me I never remember anything they tell me. 😉
I would give anything to have another place to just be able to get away and do my art! That is my dream….

      • Thanks for the encouragement. It’s funny you should say that, Christine! I have never given up the dream of being a writer even though for many years I haven’t written a thing. But starting my blog sparked that old desire in me again. I think I’m writing more than doing my art right now, still trying to find the balance. I used to think I had to do it “professionally” and get paid to count myself successful, but I don’t believe that any more. Sure, some financial compensation would be great someday, but if it never happens, it’s okay!

      • You have a great attitude Patsy and that’s catching! Thank you for your lovely notes, they are very inspiring:)

      • Thanks, Christine! Actually today I am a lot better! But I have to take my kids to town for a 3 hour class and can’t take my painting stuff with me. I am taking a notebook instead to do some writing. But hopefully tomorrow or the next day I can get started on it!
